Mean Girls: The Musical is officially being adapted into a movie – and some familiar faces from the original film will be returning. During a February 16, 2023 appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” Tina Fey — who also wrote the screenplay for the Broadway musical — announced that she would reprise her role as math teacher Ms. Norbury in the screen adaptation. Tim Meadows, who played director Duval in the 2004 comedy, will also reprise his original role in the musical version of the film. But could the original Regina George also make an appearance? Rachel McAdams commented on the prospect, but more on that later.
On March 24, 2023, fans received more exciting casting news: Jon Hamm will be taking on the role of Coach Carr, the story’s misbehaving gym teacher, a rep for the actor, who was confirmed to POPSUGAR after The Hollywood Reporter broke it .
While Fey didn’t share too much about the new Mean Girls adaptation when she performed in February, she did tell Meyers that the music in the film musical will sound a little different than it will on stage. “The songs really sound more pop-like,” she said. “On Broadway everything has to be in the background of the house and in movies everything can come back and things can be really intimate.”
