What happened to Redman in Power Book II: Ghost?
Power Book II: Ghost is known for throwing viewers the occasional curveball (or more), and season three, which premiered March 17, is no exception. New characters have been introduced so far, while one has reappeared after seemingly being killed. But viewers are sad to see that a familiar face hasn’t returned for the new season.
The second season of the hit Starz drama introduced Defense Attorney Davis MacLean’s (Method Man) brother Theo Rollins, who is in prison after being overthrown for manslaughter for the corrupt attorney. This season, Theo was played by Redman, the rap icon and well-known Method Man collaborator.
Method Man – who famously starred with Redman in 2001’s How High and collaborated with him on Blackout! Album series – reflected on his reunion with Redman in Power Book II: Ghost in a recent interview with Vibe Magazine, in which he credited the nostalgic idea to Power creator and former showrunner Courtney Kemp. “Before she even finished the sentence, I was like, ‘Say less. i have her Let’s bring him in,'” he told the publication. “It’s always great to work with someone you’ve worked with over the years, but not someone you’ve always worked with, but someone you trust in terms of performing on stage and things like that. So whenever you put Redman and Method Man together on screen, you not only get chemistry, you get synergy and professionalism.”
Although Redman’s character returns in season three, fans were quick to point out that the rapper himself did not reprise the role as he was seemingly replaced by a new face in episode three. So why isn’t Redman back for Power Book II: Ghost Season 3? Here’s what we know so far.
Why did Redman leave Power Book II: Ghost?
Neither Brett Mahoney, the showrunner of Power Book II: Ghost, executive producer 50 Cent, nor Redman himself have issued a statement addressing the rapper’s newly cast role in season three. Starz officials could not be reached for comment. While the reason for Redman’s absence is unclear, viewers are still demanding an explanation from the series.
“Come on #power y’all really thought you could swap out the redman character and we wouldn’t notice as black viewers,” one Twitter user wrote, while another tweeted, “yeah idk if i still see that.” would like . smh. I was really looking forward to Redman playing Theo. smh.”
Who plays Theo Rollins in Power Book II: Ghost Season 3?
For those who might be wondering, actor Jordan Mahome took over Redman’s role as Theo in the third episode of season three. He appears in a scene with Shane Johnson’s Cooper Saxe investigating Theo’s case on behalf of his colleague Davis while the two discuss evidence suggesting he is incarcerated for covering up his brother’s wrongdoing.
According to Davis, his brother covered for him because he could have been jailed at 21 for killing a cop’s brother. Theo struck a plea deal so Davis could continue his studies at Columbia Law, although the attorney was unaware that it would result in his brother, who has hepatitis, remaining in prison for so long.
Mahome may be a familiar face to some, having previously starred in TV shows such as Ray Donovan, The Get Down, The Punisher and For Life. It remains to be seen whether or not he will appear as Theo in future episodes of Power Book II: Ghost.
New episodes of Power Book II: Ghost air Fridays.
