Tehran: Millions gather for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s funeral procession
The funeral procession for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has begun through the streets of the capital Tehran, five months after he was assassinated in a coordinated airstrike by the United States and Israel on February 28.
Iranian media reported that the huge procession, which included large crowds alongside foreign diplomatic delegations, began at Imam Hossein Square and moved along a central, six-mile route to Azadi Square, a symbol of the Islamic Revolution. Iranian authorities, who have announced a week of commemorations and funeral processions across the country and Iraq, estimated that the main event will be attended by 15 to 20 million people.
