Reuters reveals Shells LNG Canada project to delay renewable energy shift

Reuters exclusively reported that Shell PLC’s Canadian export project team in British Columbia plans to begin construction of the planned second phase using natural gas-fired turbines and switch to electricity once more renewable energy becomes available. LNG Canada CEO Jason Klein told Reuters in an interview that the lack of transmission infrastructure makes overall electrification of the facility a challenge. As global demand for natural gas from sources other than Russia accelerated following its invasion of Ukraine last year, LNG Canada is considering building a second phase to double its annual capacity to 28 million tons by 2030.
