Lisa Marie Presley died at 54

Lisa Marie Presley has died at the age of 54 after being rushed to the hospital on Thursday, People confirmed. The outlet reported that paramedics came to her home earlier that day for a possible cardiac arrest. TMZ was the first to break the news of her hospitalization, reporting that paramedics performed CPR at her home in Calabasas, California before taking her to the emergency room.

Presley’s mother, Priscilla Presley, posted a statement on Twitter asking for prayers following her daughter’s hospitalization. “My beloved daughter Lisa Marie was taken to the hospital. She is now receiving the best care,” she wrote on Jan. 12. “Please keep her and our family in your prayers. We feel the prayers from around the world and ask for privacy during this time.”

On the same day, she shared another statement with People, confirming her daughter’s death. “It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news that our beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has passed away,” said Priscilla. “She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to come to terms with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. There will be no further comment at this time.”

Presley is survived by daughter Riley Keough, 33, and twin daughters Finley and Harper Lockwood, 14. Her father, Elvis Presley, died on August 16, 1977 when she was just 9 years old. Lisa’s son Benjamin Keough died by suicide in July 2020 at the age of 27.

News of Presley’s death comes just two days after her attendance at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, which saw Austin Butler win Best Actor in a Drama for portraying Presley’s famous father in Elvis. In his acceptance speech, Butler paid tribute to the rock ‘n’ roll icon and his family by telling them, “Thank you guys. Thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, your homes to me. Lisa Marie, Priscilla, I love you forever.”

Lisa and Priscilla, who took Butler to the 2022 Met Gala, have praised the actor’s performance. The former tweeted back in May, “Austin Butler beautifully channeled and embodied my father’s heart and soul.” In another post, she added, “In my humble opinion his performance is unparalleled and FINALLY accurately and respectfully executed. (If he doesn’t get an Oscar for it, I’m going to eat my own foot, haha.)”
