How many children do Jodie Turner Smith and Joshua Jackson have?
According to People, Turner-Smith and Joshua first met at Usher’s 40th birthday party in 2018. Their relationship reportedly started as a “one night stand,” but they soon fell head over heels in love and began dating. Then, just a year after they first hooked up, the Daily Mail reported in August 2019 that the couple was spotted in Beverly Hills with what appeared to be a marriage license. In December of that year, Us Weekly confirmed that the couple had married and were expecting their first child together.
In March 2020, Turner-Smith announced on Instagram that she and Joshua were having a baby girl, who was due in just a few weeks. Janie was born in April, and the new mum later told British Vogue in August 2020 that she gave birth to her baby at the couple’s Los Angeles home. “Sometimes I wonder how to explain to my daughter what it means to be born in 2020,” she said. “The historical events, the social unrest and me – a new mother just trying to do my best. I think I’ll tell her it was like the world stopped for her birth. And hopefully it’s never quite the same as it was before.”
Joshua opened up about being a first-time father in an interview with SiriusXM in July 2021. “She’s a little bundle of joy every day,” he said of Janie, adding that fatherhood has taught him that “all the clichés” about parenthood are true. “They say, ‘Oh, you’ll never know love like this.’ That’s right. And “You think you’re in love with them when they first arrive, but you have no idea how much deeper it gets all the time. That’s absolutely true.”
While Turner-Smith didn’t initially believe becoming a mother was something she wanted, she realized that she “loves[s]”To be a parent. “It’s honestly one of the biggest things I could have asked for,” she told People in October 2021. “It’s very exhausting [care] from someone else. But I think it’s nice to care for someone or something else because it really helps us to be better people. Whether you have a dog or a fish or a baby, I think just knowing that you care and not just being so self-centered and selfish is really helpful to our worldview.”
She also gushed about her daughter in an interview with Elle UK on March 27. “I love this little girl so much. She’s so funny,” she said, before opening up about how she will try to raise her daughter to have as normal a childhood as possible. “It’s a big job preparing kids for the world,” she said. “The best thing we can do is let them touch the earth and be grounded and real — as real as you can be given the privileges, which obviously my kid has.”
