Natural pearls are produced by mollusks. These animals form the gemstone as a natural protection against the intrusion of irritants such as parasites or grains of sand into their shell.

The moonstone is the birthstone for June.
It is known for its “adularescence”, an optical phenomenon that gives the gemstone a special glow. This happens due to the easy fragmentation between microscopic layers of feldspar (aluminosilicate minerals containing calcium, sodium or potassium) in the gemstone. After polishing, the finest moonstones are colorless or white with a blue tinge.
Many ancient cultures associated the gemstone with the moon. For example, in Hindu mythology, the moonstone was believed to be made of solidified moonbeams. In ancient Greece and Rome, the stone was associated with moon deities.
According to the Geological Institute of America, moonstone is mined around the world, including in the United States. Other countries where moonstones can be found are India, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Madagascar, Myanmar and Tanzania.
The gem symbolizes love, passion and fertility. It is also said to bring good luck. According to tradition, if you put a moonstone in your mouth when the moon is full, you can see your future.
