The security cabinet approves the plan for the high-tech safety barrier along the Jordanian border
The security cabinet announced its approval of the plan of Defense Minister Israel Katz on Sunday to build a high-tech security barrier along the eastern border with Jordan in order to strengthen the presence of Israeli presence in the Jordan valley.
The project, which begins in June, will include a multi -layered defense system from Hamat Gader in northern Israel to the Samar Sands north of Eilat.
The NIS initiative of 5.2 billion US dollars (1.4 billion US dollars) is expected to last three years and combines a physical barrier with advanced sensors, mobile military units and command infrastructure.
The plan also provides for strengthening the presence of Israeli presence in the Jordan valley, which is part of the West Bank by setting up “national mission centers”, including pre -military academies and national service framework.
Officials said that the strengthening of the border would be the Iranian efforts to smuggle weapons in Israel and create a new terrorist front over Jordan.

“The establishment of a security fence along the Israel-Jordan border is a critical strategic step against the Iranian attempt to transform the eastern border into another terrorist front,” said Katz.
“This is a strategic step that strengthens national security, strengthens our influence on the Jordan Valley, will ensure the sovereignty of Israel for the coming years – and to transform the efforts of Iran a blow, transform the eastern border into a terrorist front,” he added.

Work begins on two priority segments with a total area of 80 kilometers, while planning for the rest of the fence continues. The project is coordinated by an interministerial team, which is headed by the Defense Ministry of Department (res.) Amir Baram.
There is currently a chain connection fence along the border that Jordan shares with Israel and West Bank. Other sections are only equipped with barbed wire.
The new fence drives from Hamat Gader on the southern edge of the Golan Heights to the International Ramon Airport north of Eilat. A 30-kilometer part of the border with Jordan from the Eilat to Ramon Airport has already been upgraded in a similar way to the border barriers of Israel with Egypt and the Gaza Strip in the 2010s.
The porosity of the border has made it a place of frequent weapons and drug running. Officials say that weapons who have made it across the border – probably tens of thousands in the past ten years – have fueled an increase in violence in the Arab community in Israel and were used by Palestinian terrorists.
It has also admitted migrants who are looking for work to illegally enter Israel. On Sunday, two such migrants joined Jordan and reached the community of Yarda, north of Beit, she, before the residents met them and called the army. A similar incident also occurred on Saturday, with a suspect crossing the border of Jordan and reaching the Moshav.

The idea of increasing the border fence or building a kind of border wall has been repeatedly hovers by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others, although many see unrealistic efforts as unrealistic due to the sheer length of the border and the enormous costs.
The project was revived after the Hamas Terror Group attack started the ongoing war on October 7, 2023. The rush also demonstrated the boundaries of the border infrastructure, since thousands of terrorists injured the NIS-NIS 3.5 billion US dollars ($ 1.1 billion) against the state-of-the-art border fence with GAZA and killed around 1,200 people.
At the end of last year, the Israeli defense forces also announced the formation of a new department, which is commissioned to defend the country’s border with Jordan.
In an explanation, the IDF said that the decision to start the new regional department of the Eastern regionally according to an investigation of the “operational needs and defenses of the military in the region was made in the region in the region in accordance with the planning of the IDF in the region, in view of the knowledge of the war and the situational assessment.”
