After the attack from Iran: Israel orders the closure of the humanitarian border crossings with the Gaza Strip

Following Iran’s rocket attack on the State of Israel, a number of measures were adopted, including the immediate closure of the border crossings with the Gaza Strip. The Kerem Shalom crossing and the Rafah crossing were completely closed until further notice, immediately stopping the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The statement from the Coordinator of Government Operations in the Territories (Matfash) said the decision was taken as part of security preparation in light of the latest developments and assessment of the situation.

Although the entry of trucks has been stopped, the Israel Defense Forces emphasize that the closure of the border crossings is not expected to have any impact on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. “The volumes of food and humanitarian assistance that have entered the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the ceasefire significantly exceed the nutritional needs of the population, in line with accepted United Nations methods,” the body said in its official statement.

In addition, the Israel Defense Forces stated that it continues to maintain regular contact with the international community and relevant parties. Further updates on the reopening of border crossings will be provided at a later date based on developments on the ground and security authorities’ assessments of the situation.
